Recycled Material Project Ideas

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Pencil Case

Have a bunch of stationery lying around and a bunch of plastic bottles lying around? Combine those two and organize your stationery by making a pencil case out of those bottles!

All you need:

  • 2 medium sized plastic bottle
  • Scissors/ Knife
  • Glue Gun
  • Zipper 
  • Paints/ Paintbrush 
  • Decorative Items

Steps : 

  1. Clean the bottles thoroughly
  2. Cut the bottles in half.
  3. Glue the zipper onto both sides of the bottom pieces where you have cut
  4. Finally attach the zipper and the two bottom parts together.
  5. Fill in your case with pens , pencils etc. and close the zip.
  6. Your pencil case is ready!

Assorted Candy Holder

 Wow your guests by making this simple and beautiful candy holder.  Just by using the materials in your home you can make one just in time for your guests to arrive! All you need now are sweets!

All you need:

  • 5-7 plastic bottle of the same size
  • Scissors/ /blade
  • Decorative Tape
  • Cardboard tube from the inside of a paper towel tube.
  • Decorative paper
  • Tape or glue
  • A stand
  • Different colored assorted sweets

Steps : 

  1. Clean and dry the bottles thoroughly.
  2. Measure thirds of the bottle and cut one third of it from the bottom
  3. Cover the tube with decorative paper with your choice and secure it with glue/ tape.
  4. Cover the top of each bottle piece with decorative tape and fold it in to remove the sharp edges. You can use normal tape to do this if you don’t have the decorative ones.
  5. Measure the tube and mark places to attach the pieces at equal distances
  6. Attach the pieces and stick them into place. Then attach the tube properly with the stand
  7. Now fill your holder with different and colorful sweets, and offer them to your guests! 

Palm Tree Decoration

Learn to make a beautiful show piece out of nothing more than a couple of plastic bottles and a lot of creativity!

All you need:

  • 2 green colored plastic bottles
  • Scissors 
  • Thin cardboard tube
  • Masking tape
  • Brown paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Tissue paper
  • Green paint
  • Small stones

Steps : 

  1. Clean and dry the bottles thoroughly.
  2. Cut the middle of the bottles and cut them to look like leaves ( see the video).
  3. Attach the leaves one by one on the cardboard tube
  4. Tape them securely and paint it brown
  5. Roll mini balls out of the tissue paper and soak them in green paint.
  6. Stick them below the leaves to look like the fruit
  7. Secure the tube in one of the bottom parts of the bottles and add stones to keep it upright.
  8. Your show piece is ready!

Mini Home Planters

Have a passion for gardening but don’t have the place and equipment for it? Make these quick and easy mini planters from upcycled plastic bottles, situate them anywhere in your house, and make your very own indoor garden.

All you need: 

  • Plastic bottles of different sizes
  • Scissors
  • Soil
  • Seeds/ plant
  • Decorative Items

Steps : 

  1. Clean the bottles thoroughly
  2. Mark a rectangle in the middle of each bottle and cut it off
  3. Decorate if you desire
  4. Fill the bottle with soil 
  5. Add your seeds or the plants and water them.
  6. They’re ready! Decorate them as you wish and hang them. Don’t forget to water them
